Jack Burton was never quite sure why he went into his sister's bedroom that afternoon. He certainly had no way of knowing that it would quickly change his life and end up with him going to school as a girl.

The Boy In A Red Dress edition by Russell Frank Literature Fiction eBooks

I gave this a 4 star rating because it just had its few flaws, needed better proof reading before being published. Overall it was intriguing kept me wanting to know what would happen. At first I thought it would be just another boy to girl story but it was much more and better. It was about a family that was dealing with some really hard trials that life handed them. I felt sorry for them in their struggles to come to grips with worldly issues and how they had used their agency to choose their paths that ended in tragedy for one of the family members.
I really liked it, though the subject matter is very mature and has some pornographic details which may not have been needed . It is definitely an Adult read. I recommend this to people who try to understand gender dysphoria or have gender dysphoria but also likes a novel of intrigue.

The Boy In A Red Dress edition by Russell Frank Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Russel Frank is a very good writer of this genre. He adds feeling and emotion to his characters like he has lived part of it. I've read other novels of his and each of them do not disappoint.
A sad ending but the rest of this book makes it worth it, a boy who comes into her own, too bad it takes a tragedy to make her dad come back to the family, it shows the trials which a gurl has to pass thru' to be able to ?I've her ?I've.
As a transgender woman I can relate to many of the things that occurred. Very well written. Excellency story. I can't wait for more books from this author.
I enjoy the book. Was sorry to see how it ended. Was glad to see the family back together. Was glad to see Jack continue to grow into a wonderful woman.
This ending is a good stopping point for a continuation for a 2nd book. Does she have GRS? Does she she stay with Mark? is Scud convicted?
Well written story with great character development and a very believable storyline. The sad tale of drug abuse which is destroying mwny families today.
First of all, the cover is perfect! A pretty red dress on a boy announces the content the way a cover should, rather than a featureless or abstract cover. There's no wasted time; its as if this will be a short story, so we're quickly with Jack as he experiments with his sister's clothes and discovers how wonderful skirts and dresses feel. I'm a Jack too, and I've worn skirts to work year-round for so many years my co-workers are surprised when I wear pants. I love the feel of dresses; they're my favorite as they are for this character, but there's no way I could have ever passed as a pretty girl like he can. It's fun experiencing his discovery by his sister, but especially nice how she helps him develop his feminine side and dress the part. I only wish he'd leave the tights behind as pretty as he's described, I imagine he has pretty legs to match. His parents' reactions are realistically troubled and uneven, like today's parents dealing with openly trans youth. It's easy to see the father as an ogre but instead his concerns, while roughly expressed, are brought to our attention so clearly we can empathize with him even as our liberal selves pray we could be the Holy Mother icon in this story and embrace Jack's transformation. The roughness of his sister and her motives in helping to feminize Jack make sense if you understand a girl growing up with a misogynistic father. She felt his dislike all her life, with her mother trying her best but failing to throw her a lifeline. Her fate will be all too familiar to many readers. I was especially moved by the ending, which brought the family together in a way that avoids the saccharine conversion the author could have used; the father's words powerfully and emotionally set the scene for their new life with their new daughter.  Oh, Jackie, I have wonderful news for you skirts and dresses will still thrill you into your 60s. 😊
